A season of award-winning musicals and plays based on bestselling books will showcase dance, spark romance and leave hearts aching, if not breaking, when the 2017-2018 Tampa Broadway series takes the stage at downtown Tampa’s Straz Center this fall.

Stage versions of popular films, youngsters identifying with their inner rock stars and a couple from Cuba who achieve international stardom for their music are among the sensational shows lined up so be sure to reserve seats and get ready to applaud.

Fun Home

Fun Home is the winner of five 2015 Tony Awards including Best Musical. It is based on a popular memoir about a daughter’s coming to terms with her sexual identity while attempting to come to grips with how her father’s sexual

struggles impacted her childhood. The material is described as a mix of heavy themes and lightheartedness. The tragicomedy was a 2014 Pulitzer Prize finalist for drama so it should be worth the weight.

On Your Feet

It will be difficult not to get On Your Feet, or at least not tap your toes and snap your fingers, while listening to lots of pop favorites made famous by Emilio and Gloria Estefan.

The couple left Cuba to come to the U.S. to make a name for themselves with their Latin-influenced music and infectious lyrics with the help of their band, the Miami Sound Machine. This true story of their struggles and triumphs promises to be a real highlight of the season.
